NUTRITION PROGRAM
Reducing Malnutrition and Promoting Healthy Development
What is the Nutrition Program?
The Nutrition Program of the NCD Provincial Health Authority manages and implements Nutrition Interventions primarily at health facilities, communities, and schools. The provincial program is responsible for coordinating implementation plans, organizing outreach activities, and supervising routine nutrition activities within NCD and Motu Koita villages. Its main objective is to reduce all forms of malnutrition through awareness, prevention, early detection, and treatment. The program focuses on children aged 0-5 years, with interventions also extended to school-aged children/adolescents and pregnant women.
Key Benefits
- Ensuring Healthy Growth and Development: Providing essential nutritional support, such as growth monitoring and supplementation, to help children grow and thrive.
- Preventing Malnutrition-Related Illness and Death: Reducing the incidence of diseases and fatalities associated with poor nutrition through early detection and treatment of acute malnutrition and supplementation.
- Supporting Maternal Health: Providing nutritional support, like Iron and Folic Acid tablets, to pregnant women for healthier pregnancies and improved outcomes for both mother and newborn.
- Promoting Healthy Habits: Educating communities and schools on healthy diets, hygiene practices (like hand washing), breastfeeding, and appropriate infant and young child feeding messages.
