
National Capital District, Port Moresby 03rd July 2025- The NCD Provincial Health Authority, City Pharmacy Limited and the National Department of Health has launched the Media Campaign on Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus Elimination campaign in the National Capital District and throughout Papua New Guinea.
The Curative Health Director Dr. Michael Dokup said that through the Public Private Partnership Initiative, Tetanus Elimination in Port Moresby and PNG is possible. He acknowledges the City Pharmacy Limited for its partnership with key partners in the campaign against Tetanus Elimination Campaign.
The Acting Executive Manager for Population Health and Health Communities Dr. Lutty Amos from the National Department of Health said that Tetanus is a disease that infects the mothers and young girls through injuries, and it is only preventable through Tetanus Vaccine. “Papua New Guinea is the only country in the Pacific with Tetanus,” said Dr. Amos. With collaborative effort, it is possible to completely eliminate Tetanus in PNG.
The Head of Pharmacy Mr. Pradeep Panda said that City Pharmacy Limited did well through its partnership with NCDPHA’s Clinic at Badilli. “It is possible to achieve our goal through collaborative effort in this campaign, “said Mr. Panda.
Dr. Dokup said that the partnership with CPL will be extended to other CPL sites within Port Moresby during this MNTE campaign and the upcoming Polio Immunization Campaign. “I strongly encourage all young girls and women between the ages of 15-44 years, including pregnant and breast-feeding women to visit their nearest health facility and mobile teams to receive the free tetanus immunization to protect themselves against tetanus disease,” said Dr. Dokup.
