National Capital District, Port Moresby 29 July 2025- The National Capital District Provincial Health Authority (NCDPHA) has signed a MOU with the Burnet Institute, a leading medical research institute with a strong presence in Papua New Guinea. This pivotal collaboration signifies a shared commitment to advancing health outcomes and research capabilities within NCD.
This partnership will see NCDPHA and Burnet Institute collaborate closely on vital health research initiatives, focusing on:
· Disease Elimination: Working together to combat and eradicate prevalent diseases affecting communities in NCD and PNG.
· Health Security and Pandemic Preparedness: Strengthening NCDPHA and PNG’s capacity to prevent, detect, and respond to health emergencies and future pandemics.
· Women’s, Children’s, and Adolescents’ Health: Improving health services and outcomes for these vulnerable populations.
The Country Director for Burnet Institute Dr. Frederick Charles has acknowledged the NCD PHA’s Boards, the Senior Executive Management and the Chief Executive Officer Dr. Robin Oge for strengthening the collaboration between the two organizations. “Our PNG 2030 Strategy aims to see by 2030, a Burnet PNG to be led by matured leadership and technical team driving PNG NDOH/PHA health priorities and delivering country-led research in close collaboration with PNG health partners including the NDOH, IMR and the PHAs,” said Dr. Charles. He further emphasized that the Burnet Institute will assist with technical advice and capacity building activities in target areas including HSPP (TB, ARM, Malaria, VBD), WCAH (Immunization, nutrition, maternal and neonatal care, adolescent health) and Disease Elimination (HIV, Hepatitis, Maternal Health, Alcohol and Substances Abuse).
The Chief Executive Officer for NCD Provincial Health Authority Dr. Robin Oge has acknowledged Dr. Frederick Charles for the contribution that Burnet Institute has made to the progress of Public Health in Papua New Guinea. “This collaboration will enable Burnet Institute to assist NCD PHA with its projects and research,” said Dr. Oge.
The board and management of NCD PHA is fully committed to providing effective health services to the people of the National Capital District through partnership and research.
