National Capital District, Port Moresby 16th June 2025- The Public Health from NCDPHA has conducted educational awareness on Hypertension at the Somare Institute of Leadership and Governance (SILAG). The health awareness was intended to educate participant on how to deal with High blood pressure and the possible cause of it
The awareness was led by the Non-Communicable Disease Program manager Sr Eileen Thomas and the public health officers who intended to help the public servants’ staff and students to manage and overcome stressful situations that may lead to hypertension.
The District Medical Officer for Moresby North-east electorate Dr Veronica Niltainde said that High blood pressure occurs when the force of blood pushing against your artery walls is consistently too high. She further stated that this It can lead to serious health issues like heart disease, stroke, and kidney problems if left untreated.
Dr Niltainde indicated the common symptoms of Hypertension as:
Headaches
Shortness of breath
Nosebleeds
Dizziness
Despite being the leading cause of many silent deaths over the year, high blood pressure is curable through:
Healthy diet (low salt, more fruits & vegetables)
Regular exercise
Stress management
Avoid smoking & excessive alcohol
The CEO Dr Robin Oge said that the public health team for NCD Provincial Health Authority is fully dedicated to providing vital health educational awareness in all the Government Institutions. “The management team of NCDPHA is fully dedicated to improving the health and well-being of the people of National Capital District and Motu Koita Communities.
