HIV PROGRAM
Combating HIV/AIDS and Improving Lives
What is the HIV Program?
The HIV Program of the NCD Provincial Health Authority is dedicated to reducing the burden of HIV/AIDS and achieving global obligations related to HIV. Our strategy is to increase the capacity of the program response to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS. The response in NCD is a collaborative effort involving the Government, Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and Development Partners, working together on three core components: HIV Case finding, HIV Care and Treatment, and Prevention and Promotion Services.
Key Benefits
- Reducing the Burden of HIV: Working towards lowering the prevalence and impact of HIV in the community.
- Providing Access to Care and Treatment: Ensuring that people living with HIV (PLHIV) are identified, linked to care, and receive life-saving Antiretroviral Treatment (ART).
- Preventing New Infections: Implementing strategies and services to stop the spread of HIV within the population.
- Improving Health Outcomes for PLHIV: Supporting individuals living with HIV to achieve viral suppression, live healthier lives, and reduce mortality.
- Protecting Vulnerable Populations: Prioritizing prevention and care for key populations and preventing mother-to-child transmission.
Services Offered
- HIV Screening and Case Finding: Providing various testing models including VCT (Voluntary Counselling and Testing), PICT (Provider-Initiated Counselling and Testing), and ICFPT (Index Case Finding and Partner Testing) to identify new cases.
- HIV Care and Treatment: Facilitating linkage to care, providing Antiretroviral Treatment (ART), and implementing strategies like Active Case Management (ACM) and Decentralized Service Delivery Models (DSDM) to ensure retention in care.
- Viral Load Monitoring: Supporting the monitoring of viral load among PLHIV to assess treatment effectiveness and ensure viral suppression.
- Prevention and Promotion Services: Conducting public awareness campaigns, education, and targeted interventions to prevent new infections.
- Maternal and Pediatric HIV Services: Offering services for pregnant women (PPTCT – Prevention of Parent to Child Transmission) and rolling out pediatric ART to protect newborns and children affected by HIV.
