Pharmaceutical Services
The NCD PHA Pharmaceutical Services network includes 23 urban clinic dispensaries and Gerehu Hospital Pharmacy. The Provincial Pharmacy Office (PPO) plays a key role in overseeing all 23 health facilities and Gerehu Hospital Pharmacy and managing pharmaceutical services within NCD. It ensures the safe, effective, and appropriate use of medications across healthcare facilities in NCD.

Regulatory Oversight
- Ensure compliance with national and provincial regulations regarding the procurement, storage, distribution, and dispensing of medications.
- Monitor the quality and safety of pharmaceutical products used across all health facilities in the province.
Pharmaceutical Services Coordination
- Support and manage the coordination of pharmaceutical services in hospitals, clinics, dispensaries, and other health centers.
- Oversee the training and professional development of pharmacy staff, including ensuring the availability of qualified pharmacists at various facilities.
Medication Management
- Ensure that all health facilities are equipped with essential medicines and supplies, with an emphasis on timely distribution and stock management.
- Monitor and promote the rational use of medications, including supporting appropriate prescribing practices, reducing medication errors, and addressing drug shortages.
Pharmacy Workforce Development
- Work to strengthen the pharmacy workforce, including recruiting and retaining qualified pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other personnel.
- Develop and implement training programs to improve the skills and knowledge of pharmacy staff, particularly in areas such as medication management, patient counselling, and clinical pharmacy.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure that pharmaceutical services are delivered in accordance with best practices and that patient safety is prioritized.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of facilities to ensure the quality and integrity of pharmaceutical services.
Support for Clinical Services
- Provide clinical pharmacy services, such as medication management, drug information, and counselling, to improve patient outcomes.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses, etc.) to ensure the appropriate use of medications in treatment protocols.
Data Collection and Reporting
- Collect and analyze data related to medication usage, prescription trends, and inventory management to inform decision-making and improve service delivery.
- Report to national authorities on the status of pharmaceutical services and any challenges faced.
