 What is the Lifestyle Diseases Program?

The Lifestyle Diseases Program generally manages and implements activities related to Lifestyle Diseases at the health facilities providing Lifestyle Diseases Program services. These lifestyle diseases generally include Diabetes, Cancers, Chronic Respiratory Diseases and Cardiovascular Diseases. The Lifestyle Diseases Program officer is basically responsible for coordinating development of implementation plans, organize outreach services from the clinics and supervise routine Lifestyle Diseases Program activities. Its strategies are under KRA 4.

  • Health Promotion and Prevention: Promoting healthy diets, physical activity, and discouraging harmful habits like tobacco use and excessive alcohol consumption. Educating individuals and communities on lifestyle disease risk factors.
  • Screening and Early Detection: Providing routine check-ups and screening services to identify common lifestyle diseases early. This includes assessing for conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, and overweight/obesity.
  • Treatment and Management: Offering comprehensive care for individuals diagnosed with lifestyle diseases, including access to necessary medication, therapeutic counselling, and rehabilitation support to manage their conditions effectively.
  • Outreach Services: Conducting awareness and service delivery activities in various communities, including hard-to-reach areas, to improve access to lifestyle diseases prevention, screening, and management services.
  • School Health Programs: Implementing health education and prevention initiatives targeted at young people within school settings to promote healthy habits from an early age and reduce risk factors like tobacco use.
  • Information and Counselling: Providing individuals and families with essential information about lifestyle diseases, risk reduction strategies, and available support services to help them make informed decisions about their health.
