Family Health Services

Program Description:
The Family Health Services (FHS) serves to provide overall direction, planning, management and coordination of the implementation of public health programs and primary care for a family unit. This includes priority programs in reproductive, developmental and well-being to improve the health of men, women and children in the National Capital District (NCD) of Papua New Guinea (PNG), through the network of clinics and outreach programs.

The Program is headed by the Deputy Director Public Health – Family Health Services whose role basically is to provide leadership, technical support/advice and oversight of the various sub-programs. The Coordinator of the FHS provides coordination of these programs.  The program officers ensure that relevant national and sub-national policies, standards and practices are implemented and monitored at the facility level. It ensures the priorities set under the National Health Plan 2021 – 2030, namely Key Result Area (KRA) 4 is effectively implemented.

In addition, Covid-19 Vaccination is also implemented and coordinated through the Family Health Services Unit, under the EPI Program.  The FHS coordinator is directly responsible to the Deputy Director Public Health under Family Health Services Unit.

Program Focus Areas:
The FHS implements Eight major programs in NCD, which are headed by program managers. These programs include the Lifestyle Disease, Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI), Family Planning, Nutrition and Disaster and Emergency Response, Gender Base Violence & Disability (GBV), Maternal and Child Health and WASH program. These programs are coordinated and integrated by the coordinator – Family Health Services. The FHS unit is headed by the Deputy Director Public Health – Family Health Services who reports to the Director Public Health.

Our Programs

EPI Program

The EPI Program at NCDPHA provides vaccines to protect against preventable diseases, ensuring community health and promoting childhood immunization.

Maternal and Child Health Program

Improve maternal and child health through prenatal care, immunization, nutrition, family planning, and disease prevention services.

Nutrition Program

promotes healthy diets, combats malnutrition, supports maternal and child nutrition, and prevents diet-related diseases through education and interventions

Family Planning Program

Provides counseling, contraception, reproductive health education, and services to empower individuals and reduce maternal and child mortality

Gender Based Violence & Disability Program

The GBV (Gender-Based Violence) Program at NCDPHA provides support services, counseling, and advocacy for survivors of gender-based violence.

Lifestyle Disease Program

Focuses on prevention, early detection, and management of diabetes, hypertension, cancer, and other lifestyle-related diseases.

Disaster Management & Emergency Program

Prepares for and responds to health crises, natural disasters, and emergencies, ensuring rapid care and recovery.

WASH Program

Ensures access to clean water, proper sanitation, and hygiene education to prevent waterborne diseases
